PIONEERING  PARTNERSHIP  HELPS  SAVE  ESTIMATED  ONE MILLION  NEWBORN  LIVES  AROUND  THE  WORLD

Pampers and UNICEF began a journey 15 years ago - a journey to eliminate Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) to help make every baby's world better. MNT is a needlessly fatal disease affecting mothers and babies around the world that can be prevented through immunization and hygienic birth practices.

The partnership launched with a promise that every time a pack of Pampers featuring the UNICEF logo was purchased, one vaccine would be donated to UNICEF. During this time, working together with a shared vision, mission and goal, we have helped to:

  • Eliminate MNT in 26 countries
  • Purchase and donate more than 300 million MNT vaccines
  • Increase the number of newborn lives saved by an estimated one million
  • Protect 100 million women and their babies
  • Reduce the number of newborn deaths by MNT per year by 60%

As we reflect on our partnership, Pampers and UNICEF express thanks to the contributions of all those who have been a part of our journey - parents, guardians, retailers, employees, health workers on the ground and wider partners.

Over the last 15 years, we have seen first-hand the impact that the partnership has had on mothers and babies around the world. Madame Fonana Aira Toure, a mother from Mali, whose child was affected by MNT shared her experience with us:

“My daughter suffered from tetanus before she was even a month old. We went to different health centers and finally they referred us to the Gabriel Toure Hospital. After months of care and rehabilitation, Thanks God, she is doing very well today. I had two other children after her, I was vaccinated against tetanus and they are all doing well today. The tetanus vaccine is important and can save our children’s lives.”

Winfred Baluka, a health worker based in Uganda, also shared how important the MNT vaccination programme is in order to protect mothers and babies now and in the future.

For more than 60 years, Pampers has been committed to making every baby’s world better. The Pampers and UNICEF partnership is a true example of an “act of good”, highlighting how, by coming together with a shared goal, we can do more and do better, having real impact on mothers and babies around the world.

The Pampers and UNICEF partnership is part of P&G’s ongoing commitment to Lead With Love and is among the Company’s efforts to deliver 2,021 Acts of Good in 2021.
