Stepping up in our Headquarters City

P&G Cincinnati

“Volunteer hands out hygiene kit in conjunction with Mathew 25 Ministries.”

Tim Mettey has seen some things.

Famines. Hurricanes. Tsunamis. Earthquakes.

As the CEO and son of the founder of Matthew 25: Ministries, he’s been at the forefront of global disaster relief for decades.

The demands of the COVID-19 response, he says, is the largest by far.

P&G has partnered with Matthew 25: Ministries for many years, serving millions of people around the globe facing catastrophes. Both of our organizations are headquartered in Cincinnati, and both have a long history of supporting our communities in times of need. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, Matthew 25 has delivered 265,000 pounds of emergency supplies to more than 400 organizations — including hospitals, first responders, fire departments, police departments, nursing homes, schools, and healthcare facilities. P&G has supported these efforts by providing personal care and cleaning products from brands like Dawn, Gillette, Mr. Clean and Tide.

Our commitment to Tim and his dedicated team is one way we’re connecting and collaborating to respond to the impact of coronavirus in our hometown Cincinnati.

We are helping in many other ways, too. On March 18, we joined forces with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, along with other companies, to support the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund.

“Our community has a track record of exceptional generosity. In moments like this, our unity is our strength,” said David Taylor, our Chairman, President and CEO. The money raised for the COVID-19 Regional Response Fund is being distributed to food banks, shelters, child and senior services and organizations helping those most in need.

We’re also partnering with the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber on RESTART – an initiative to assist businesses in the Greater Cincinnati area by connecting them to resources and support. This effort connects to our commitment to supporting the 60,000 businesses in our global supply chain network.

Cincinnati’s economic development agency Cincinnati Center City Development Corp (3CDC) is finding new ways to support local businesses, including downtown restaurants and shops that depend on the patronage of our P&G employees working downtown. We sponsored the Cincy Card Connection, an incentive program that encourages people to purchase gift cards for downtown businesses. Within two days, the program raised $100,000 in gift cards purchases resulting in another $100,000 for local businesses —totaling a $200,000 direct investment into the Cincinnati community.

Our P&G family has also stepped up with local donations. Olay donated 1,000 gift cards valued at $70 each to the local United Way. These cards are being distributed by the United Way to local agencies to help provide critical relief supplies to help those most in need during these challenging times.

Our local Asian Pacific American (APA) affinity group donated more than $8,000 to the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Association (GCCA) to help purchase medical masks for local hospitals and public service department such as EMA emergency team.

“We are so proud to be a part of the community group to step up and make a difference,” said Jay Tao, GCCA President and APA member. “It is very much needed at this time.”

Amid the COVID-19 response, P&G has continued to administer its spring grant cycle. These grants help Greater Cincinnati non-profits remain in service to our community during this crisis and financially viable for the long term.

In this challenging time, we are answering the call to do even more around the world - right here in the city where we first began operations in 1837.
